2009 IHS Boys Basketball Honor Guard  15 December, 2009 (back to 2009 Events)
Honoring our Colors

The Ipswich High School Tigers Boys Varsity Basketball team kicked off their '09-'10 season at home on December 15th, 2009.  Athletic Director Tom Gallagher and Head Coach Alan Laroche welcomed an Honor Guard to render honors to the colors at the beggining of the game.

Although the Tigers dropped the home opener, the season has lots of potential!

The Honor Guard

All of Ipswich's Veterans groups came together for the event and the cooperation resulted in a wonderfully representative and colorful Honor Guard.

The group entered the gymnasium while students read a brief introduction, and then formed up at center court to render honors during the singing of the National Anthem by Ipswich High Students.

Robert Dudek

The introductory remarks noted the fact that the flag which hangs in the gymnasium is the same one which covered the coffin of Sgt. Robert Dudek, an Ipswich High basketball player himself, and an Air Force casualty of the Vietnam War.  Mr. Dudek's mother, brother and nephew attended the game.

If you have a local event for which an Honor Guard would be appropriate, please contact one of the commanders of our local organizations to discuss how Ipswich's veterans might support your program.

Selected images of the Honor Guard which included the commanders and representatives of all four of Ipswich's Veterans organizations.  Among those participating were several WWII veterans, the former High School Resource Officer and the brother of Paul Doyon, another Ipswich casualty of the Vietnam War.
