Community Service

The members of VFW Post 1093 are active in many areas in the Ipswich community.  Often serving dependably and quietly as they did while in overseas service they can be found as volunteers in numerous local, national and international organizations including:

Activities which members have participated in in recent months of 2009 include: Memorial Day parades in Ipswich and neighboring towns, OIF/OEF Convention at Post 1093, Boy Scouts, color guards for funerals, group visits to wakes, hospital and nursing home visits, flag disposal, monument preservation, placing flags on veteran graves, providing bronze VFW grave markers, provided facilities at no charge for funeral requirements and other veteran activities, Ipswich 375th celebrations, donations to Ipswich High School Boosters, scholarship awards, landscaping at high school memorial, donations to various youth sports activities, provision of facility for boater safety training sessions run by CG Auxiliary, donation of American and MIA colors to Northeast Vets Outreach Center and presentation at Brooksby Village retirement community.


Event and Funeral Support

VFW Post 1093 members are frequently found serving in color and honor guards in local parades, at community ceremonies and at the wakes and funerals of fallen comrades and community veterans.


Financial Support

VFW Post 1093 routinely donates generously to a wide range of local organizations and charity efforts. 


Scholarships

VFW Post 1093 offers two separate scholarship programs. 

The Voice of Democracy program offers the opportunity to compete for $3,000,000 in scholarship money available to students in 9-12th grade.  Students compose an essay on a topic (patriotism theme) identified by the VFW and submit it for evaluation.  For information please contact Post 1093's Voice of Democracy chairperson.

The Post 1093 provides additional scholarships to local graduating high school students who meet each program's criteria.
